mad rush

the weekend was a whirlwind of activities. i think i like it though. it forces me to be WAY more productive than my normal lazy self would ever be. sl and i helped out and attended a baby shower for tk's sister. the favor is pictured above. pretty cute isn't it? i had absolutely no involvement in the production of that little number but it is the only decent picture that i took all weekend. i made a chocolate marble pound cake for the shower and it looked really pretty when it was sliced up. was kind of worried about it because the recipe called for cake flour (which i normally have) but when checked my pantry there was none! i found the recipe over at lick the spoon. she has a pretty good picture up. you all can just pretend that i made that one since i forgot to take a picture! the recipe was from the recently released martha stewart's baking handbook. that martha! she never rests! =)

also on tap for the weekend was a chocolate flan. the whole flan making process was inspired by ck's posting. her's is pretty cute with the square shape. i had this idea that i was going to make mine rectangular with fluted edges but i couldn't find an appropriate pan so i ended up going with the standard round shape. i had some flan anxiety while tring to slide the flan onto it's serving dish but i called up ck and she was able to talk me through it. =) the flan made it's way to a family christmas get together. i wasn't very impressed with the results so i'm not going to post the recipe. it seemed a little dense for my taste. one person even commented that it seemed like cheesecake. that doesn't sound like a flan compliment to me! forgot to take a picture that one too. oh well.

there was some other madness associated with the weekend. i saw a lot of leather pants, christmas trees, vodka tonics, and there was a surreal encounter with a yalie and a wingman. i think i'm going to save those stories for another day. ;-)

hahaha... maybe it's not a flan compliment, but anything that tastes like a cheesecake can't be all bad.
