i looked closely at my lettuce plant yesterday and it was COVERED with aphids! just thinking about it is making me itchy!

Ugh. I hate aphids. They ended up infesting any herb plants that I grew on my windowsill.
is there any way to keep them AWAY?!
maybe spraying with some soapy water?
