usually when i entertain i have a good idea about what i'm going to be making a fair amount of time before i make it. however an impromtu dinner party coupled with a week long business trip threw me for a bit of a loop. waking up early on saturday morning, i had no groceries in the fridge and no idea what i was making for dinner for five. luckily i have a few easy recipes in my arsenal and i supplemented a bit with some recipes from martha stewart's newest and thomas keller's bouchon. mmmm... dinner in no time! too bad that when i get excited i forget to take pictures. =p

bouchon house vinaigrette

1/4 cup dijon mustard
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 1/2 cups canola oil

whisk mustard and vinegar. slowly drizzle in canola oil and whisk together briskly. add a pinch of salt to taste.

i used it over a wedge salad with iceberg, toasted almonds, tomatoes, and avocado.

I finished this one awhile ago, but it never made it to the blog. According to the blog archives, it took roughly one year (see here, here or there). I was trying to finish it up for my uncle's Christmas eve party, but I got thrown off by some caramel-making disasters and gave that up about 1 hour before the party. Then I was going to try to finish it for some other event, but that didn't happen either. I ended up wearing it for some grand outing involving walking to the library on campus because it happened to be freakishly hot on that January day. I wore it with a nude camisole to tame my paranoia about flashing people with my under-undergarments, but as you can see from the photo, it leaves this interesting sort of line. I think it would probably be ok without the camisole.

Anyway, the photo is not the greatest, what with the flash aimed at my belly and all. Oh well!
