Here are some results of my woo tul gow efforts. I don't have a pie pan or a large pot for steaming, so I had to steam these little guys in whatever round shapes I had available. I was steaming them all night and even had to take some out so I could reuse the bowls.

Here is the recipe I used. I found it somewhere on the internet awhile back, but can't find the original source to credit it.
Woo Tul Gow
Filling
2 lbs. Taro
2 Chinese sausages
6 dried mushrooms, rehydrated
¼ cup dried shrimp, rehydrated
2 green onions
½ lb. Char siu, diced
½ tsp. 5 spice
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Soy sauce
4 tbsp. Oil
5 tbsp. Water
1. Brown taro in 2 tbsp. Oil
2. Add 3 tbsp. Water, 5 spice and simmer until cooked through, about 5 minutes.
3. Heat 2 tbsp. Oil. Fry sausage, char siu, mushrooms and shrimp.
4. Add salt, soy sauce, and 2 tbsp. Water. Cook for 5 minutes. Add green onion.
Batter:
2 ½ c. cake flour
2 ½ tbsp. Corn starch
3 ¾ c. cold water
2 tsp. Salt
1. Combine ingredients for batter. Mix with filling ingredients.
2. Pour into containers until 1” deep.
3. Steam for 40 minutes.
I hadn't worked on this in awhile, but I picked it up yesterday when I was watching Boyz n the Hood instead of the superbowl. You know, themes of striving to maintain in the ghetto go well with knitting Victorian-inspired lacy tops. Anyway, knitting this is like an addictive drug. I couldn't stop. I've ripped and re-knit so many times that if I have to rip again, I may hurl the knitting needle across the room. The project is over on my bed now, so hopefully I won't be tempted to pick it back up instead of working on my assignment. Oops, I'm blogging instead of working on my assignment.
