1. It actually helps to plan ahead, especially if the recipe you choose for an event 8 hours away requires you to make creme fraiche, which takes 12-24 hours to thicken and sour.
2. It also a good thing to not assume that, since the recipe for creme fraiche that came with the recipe for the lemon loaf cake makes 1 cup, that the lemon loaf cake requires 1 cup of creme fraiche. It doesn't! It only needs 3/4 cups.
3. Do not set the timer on your phone and then, while talking on the phone, forget about the timer and proceed to burn your lemon loaf cake. You will be sad. Especially since the recipe makes two loaves.
4. Once you have not-so-discretely cut off the bottom, burnt portion of the loaf cake, announcing its charred-quality to the general public does not make the cake appear more attractive. Poor loaves.
Despite all these issues, the cake still turned out ok. I think the added sourness from letting the creme fraiche sit around for than 4 hours would have helped and using the correct amount would have made the cake more buttery. Boo. Because even with all these issues, the cake managed to turn out ok, there will be a next time.
