procrastination

I knew this would happen. During my senior year, I distinctly remember knitting at least one baby sweater and reading the entire fourth Harry Potter book when feeling stressed out about the impending end of the semester. This time, I told myself, "Absolutely no knitting and no Harry Potter!" I still haven't read the fifth book.

After finishing a small paper today and before starting one of two remaining homework assignments, I went to the library to pick up the copy of Simple Crochet by Erika Knight that I had on hold. I have been thinking about the slippers in this book ever since Alison of the Blue Blog made them (see her finished ones here). Back in March, I acquired the recycled silk yarn that I wanted to use to make them, but it wasn't until now that I got my hands on a copy of the pattern. Nothing else in the book is really exciting to me, although the designs are executed in unusal materials, like leather cording, raffia and ribbon yarns, the shapes are pretty simple if you are familiar with crochet... hence the title of the book.

Upon coming back from the library, I decided that it was essential that I install a new piece of computer hardware before starting on my next assignment. My computer's a little old, so that process involved a lot of waiting. What better to do while waiting than start on a gauge swatch? Several computer crashes later... oh well, I said "no knitting," not "no crochet."
